About This Experience
Skydive Fujioka operates from Sky Field Watarase in Tochigi Prefecture — about an hour and 15 minutes from Kitasenju Station in Tokyo, or roughly an hour via the Tōhoku Expressway. The dropzone exits at 3,800 m (approximately 12,500 ft) with around 60 seconds of freefall — the operator claims this as the longest publicly-bookable tandem freefall in Japan, though variation in load and exit altitude means individual jumps may run shorter. Cash-only payment on the day. The operation is organised as an NPO (non-profit) — unusual in commercial skydiving and a structural reflection of the operator's training-club origins. Instructor support is primarily Japanese; some English available depending on the day. Group discounts apply for parties of five or more, and student discounts are available for accredited education ID. Beyond tandem first-timers, the operator runs static-line and licensing pathways for Japanese-resident students. The right jump for Tokyo-anchored travellers who can manage a half-day rail-or-car trip north to Tochigi, for Japanese-speaking groups (or English speakers with a Japanese-fluent travel companion), and for budget-conscious tandems where on-the-day cash payment is acceptable. Skydiving Kansai near Toyooka, Hyogo, is the equivalent option for travellers anchored to the Osaka/Kyoto region — between the two operators, Japan's commercial tandem options are well covered for Tokyo-based and Kansai-based itineraries respectively.
