Skydive Azul flies from Chikusei in western Ibaraki, about 90 minutes from central Tokyo by car via the Joban or Kita-Kanto expressways, or by JR to Shimodate Station with a short taxi to the field. The operation runs daily from 9:00 to 17:00, weather permitting, and is a USPA member. Capacity is small by design — the operator takes a maximum of 10–12 jumpers a day — so slots go quickly, though a booking as little as a week ahead can work if the day still has space. What sets it apart is the aircraft: this is the Tokyo area's only helicopter skydive. The climb to around 12,000 ft is quieter and smoother than a fixed-wing ride, and the exit is a hover step-off rather than a dive out of a door — followed by roughly 40 seconds of freefall over the Kanto Plain and a canopy ride with Mount Tsukuba below and, on clear days, Mount Fuji in the distance. Three plans cover most visitors: the standard Ibaraki tandem from JPY 56,000, the Mount Fuji plan from JPY 99,000 (flying from Nirasaki in Yamanashi, jumping with Fuji filling the view — note the narrow helicopter cabin there sets hard limits of 175 cm height and 80 kg weight), and a premium Tokyo-area special for two at JPY 278,000. Camera packages run JPY 8,000 for handcam up to JPY 24,000 for full video and photos. The right jump for Tokyo-anchored travellers who want a story beyond the standard tandem — the helicopter exit alone separates it from every other listing in Japan — and for anyone building a trip around the Mount Fuji jump. Skydive Fujioka in neighbouring Tochigi remains the budget fixed-wing alternative on the same side of Tokyo.

No jump run and no bench seats — the helicopter climbs to 12,000 ft and comes to a hover with the door already open.
Step off into still air. A hover exit has no relative wind, so the first seconds are a straight drop rather than a push into the airflow.
