Fujioka is in Tochigi prefecture, on the flat river land where Saitama, Tochigi, Gunma and Ibaraki meet. The dropzone sits on the riverbed between the Watarase retarding basin and the Watarase sports park — not an airfield in the conventional sense, but one of the busiest sky-sports areas in Japan, where paragliders, hot-air balloons, gliders and ultralights all share the same horizon. Skydive Fujioka exits at around 3,800 m and advertises the longest freefall in Japan, at close to 60 seconds. Getting there is easier than the distance suggests: about an hour from Kita-senju to Fujioka station on the Tobu Nikko line, or roughly 15 minutes by car from the Tateyama interchange on the Tohoku Expressway. A station shuttle runs for the 08:30 slot only and has to be booked in advance. The club flies most weekends and holidays but closes from mid-January to the end of February, when winter winds ground too many loads to be worth scheduling around.
